I’m not going to lie, this outfit totally makes me feel like a powerhouse. A little touch of military, a little touch of victorian, a bit of leather, some of my favorite accessories, and I basically have turned into a freaking modern-day Mary Poppins.
Let me tell you about some of my favorite pieces…
THIS COAT. It’s pretty much the winter coats of all winter coats for me. Why I love it… It’s incredibly warm, and while the cut on the arm is slim, it’s not wool all around and is secretly cotton/spandex on the inside of the arm. The benefit? It doesn’t feel constricting whatsoever and I can function in life without feeling like I’m being personally attacked by my overcoat (normally my arms will start flailing, there is a lot of karate moves, fabric is flying everywhere. It’s a whole thing… And it’s not cute).
Hands down one of my favorite recent discoveries have been ear crawlers. You know the scene in the new Beauty and the Beast when Emma Watson is putting on the yellow ball gown? One of the last touches were these amazing gold ear cuffs. And it was in that moment that I realized I have been neglecting my head flaps my entire life (dramatic? Maybe a little). And THEN I found these guys online. And not only that, they incorporate my other favorite trend, which is earrings that don’t match exactly. Buyer beware though, I get stopped on a regular basis by passers-by and nice older ladies in the grocery store to tell me that my earring broke. hahaha
This winter I’m OBSESSED with gloves, but not just plain ol gloves, gloves with a little bit of spiciness to them. I mean, if you want to start adding some bolder pieces to your wardrobe, might as well do it with something you don’t even wear all day. Plus a red glove with a matching red lip?! Your body pretty much can’t handle it and your hips start taking over, and before you know it, you’re sashaying down the sidewalk. Try it, I dare you.
Lastly, these “leather” leeeeggggings (they aren’t real leather). I love them. They are SO ridiculously comfortable and soft and if I can leave the house feeling like I’m wearing pajamas, I call that a win-win. And the fact that Nordstrom also carries them in petite, it’s a win-win-win. Word of caution, make sure they are fully dry before you put them on after you wash them. I didn’t realize mine were still slightly damp once and I pretty much reenacted the episode of ‘Friends’ with Ross and the leather pants. It’s all fun and games until it’s you wriggling on your bedroom floor.
